Jessica Van Hulle's art and design work draws inspiration from American Subculture and Art History. She is inspired by all kinds of subcultures, but especially the Gothic, Punk Rock, Steampunk, Tribal Belly Dance, Burning Man, New Age Spirituality and Mysticism, Burlesque, and Retro 1930’s -1950’s subcultures.
Her use of dynamic composition, graphic silhouettes, rich colors, patterns and textures synthesizes artistic styles from the late Renaissance, Romanticism, Realism, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Vintage Advertising, Propaganda and Pin-Up Art, Low Brow and Pop Surrealism. She combines these interests with a contemporary illustrative aesthetic, bringing a fresh new outlook to whatever creative project she is mastering.

This painting is in honor of the fabulous 70's (and beyond) icon, Pam Grier. It features my favorite “victory” sun beams and clouds making a dramatic background to her heroic and proud figure. Her sexy air pirate outfit, Steampunk pepperbox pistol, and aviator cap with goggles complement the collection of gears tattoos decorating her arm.
